An aesthetic consultation at KAY Clinics is a free, face-to-face conversation with Shuaib Hanafi, the pharmacist and Independent Prescriber who would also treat you. It comes before anything is treated. He asks about your health and what you would like to change, tells you straight whether he thinks treatment would suit you, and puts his advice and the cost in writing for you to keep, even if you decide against it.
That is the short version. The rest of this article walks through the visit in order: who you see, what you will be asked, what the written plan holds, and what happens if you decide to book. It is written for anyone in Rotherham, Wickersley or nearby who is thinking about a first treatment and would like to know what they are walking into.
Who do you see at an aesthetic consultation here?
You see Shuaib, and only Shuaib. He qualified as a pharmacist in the UK, is also an Independent Prescriber, and is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council under number 2230779. Anyone can look that number up on the GPhC's public register before they visit, and we would encourage you to.
This matters more than it might seem. Anti-wrinkle treatment, and several other treatments on our list, use prescription-only medicines. A prescription-only medicine can only be supplied on a prescription from someone legally allowed to write one. At KAY Clinics that prescription is written only after Shuaib's face-to-face assessment. Here, the person who assesses you, the person who prescribes and the person who treats you are the same person. Nobody signs off your treatment from somewhere else.
It also means the conversation is with someone who has a clinical background, not a sales script. Careful patient selection is part of how Shuaib runs the clinic, and the consultation is where it happens.
What will Shuaib ask you?
The visit is built around three things: your concerns, your expectations and your medical history.
Your concerns
Start with what bothers you, in your own words. Lines when you frown, lips you feel have thinned, a jawline you would like more defined, heavy sweating that gets in the way of daily life. You do not need to know the name of a treatment. Not knowing is a perfectly good place to start.
Your expectations
Next comes what you are hoping for. Shuaib's aim is a result that still looks like you: features kept in proportion, nothing overdone. If your idea fits that, he will say so. If it does not, he will say that too, and explain why.
Your medical history
Then the clinical part. Write down any medication you take and any allergies you know about, because that is the first thing he will ask. These answers decide whether a prescription-only treatment is safe to prescribe for you at all, so it is worth being thorough, even about things that seem unrelated.
Can the answer be no?
Yes. Hearing no is one of the things a consultation is for. If a treatment would be wrong for you, because of your health, because it would not give the result you are after, or because you simply do not need it, Shuaib will say so and point you towards something that would fit better.
What goes into your written plan?
If treatment is suitable, Shuaib puts it in writing during the same visit. The plan covers:
- Which areas would be treated, and which would be left alone.
- How much product he recommends. With filler he recommends how much your face needs, and why, rather than selling a fixed amount.
- The cost, as a final figure. Where a treatment on the list is shown as a starting price, the final figure is settled at the consultation, before anything is treated.
- A realistic result: what the treatment is likely to do for you, described honestly. Results vary from person to person, and the plan will not promise otherwise.
Nothing is treated until you have agreed all of this. You take the plan and the figure home with you, and they are yours to keep either way.
You can also look at every price before you come. Our full list is on the site, and nothing on it asks you to enquire for a figure. The anti-wrinkle treatment page shows the areas and prices for that treatment, and the dermal fillers page covers filler for the cheeks, chin and other areas.
What questions should you ask at your consultation?
A good consultation runs both ways. Shuaib will ask you a lot, and you are entitled to ask just as much back. These are worth having on a note in your pocket:
- Is this treatment prescription-only? If it is, you should know who is prescribing it and on what basis. Here the answer will always be Shuaib, after he has assessed you in person.
- What exactly would you treat, and what would you leave? A clear answer is a sign the plan is built around your face, not a menu.
- How much product, and why that amount?
- What is the final price? Not a starting figure. The full amount for what is in your plan.
- What happens at the review, and who do I contact if I am worried before then? You should leave knowing both.
- What would you not recommend for me? Often the most useful question of the lot, and one a careful prescriber is glad to answer.
None of these should feel awkward to ask. If any answer is vague, it is fine to go away and think about it.
What happens if you decide to book?
If you go ahead, treatment day follows a set order.
- Consent. You sign a consent form first. No treatment goes ahead without your signature.
- Before photographs, taken before anything is treated.
- The treatment itself, carried out by Shuaib, calmly and in a clean clinical room, following the plan you agreed.
- Aftercare in writing, handed to you before you leave, so you are not relying on remembering what was said.
About two weeks later you come back for a review. Shuaib checks how the treatment has settled against the plan you agreed. The review and your follow-ups are complimentary.
Which treatments start with an aesthetic consultation?
All of them. Booking any prescription-only treatment online adds the free consultation first, automatically. For other treatments, the consultation is still where the plan is agreed.
The treatments people most often come to talk about are:
- Anti-wrinkle treatment, for lines across the forehead, frown lines between the brows and crow's feet.
- Lip filler, planned to suit the rest of your face rather than for size alone.
- Dermal fillers for the cheeks, chin, and the nasolabial and marionette lines.
- Facial enhancement, covering brow lift, gummy smile, dimpled chin, neck lift and jaw slimming.
Do you have to come to the clinic?
The clinic is in Wickersley, Rotherham, S66 2LT. Shuaib also offers a mobile home service for people who would rather be seen at home. If that would suit you, mention it when you get in touch and he will tell you whether he can come to you.
See our opening hours when you book.
How do you book an aesthetic consultation?
The quickest way is online. Book a free consultation and choose a time that suits you. There is no deposit: you pay in clinic, and only for treatment.
If you would rather ask a question first, call or WhatsApp the clinic on 07746 334403. A short message is fine. Tell us what you are thinking about, and we will tell you honestly whether a consultation is the right next step.
Individual results vary. You must be 18 or over to be treated.
